Our Girls... Annie & Hollee and Daddy's Roxanne

This started out a reply to a fellow Dobe owner who has to put his best friend of 11 years down this Friday due to cancer...

I hope I'm not imposing, but sometimes my replies can get kinda winded... and why open that can of worms only to be ridiculed by the Pissy right?!
It certainly sucks you have to put your boy down, 11 years is a big chunk of your life! My husband's female lived to be 15, and being the ever stoic breed they are, no one knew anything was wrong with his Roxanne literally till her last breath! Tom sat on the stairs she perched above him, you know, ass sitting on the step, with front paws standing, nose to nose, and he told me all the sudden she took a long deep breath, and as she forcefully exhaled, she expelled her insides behind her. The vet said her whole body had been riddled with cancer for quite some time. That was well before I knew him.
Our first family dog was a chocolate Lab, Annie. We just lost her late last summer after 11 years too. She was huge for a Lab, very tall, and was built to pull all 3 of her kids on the toboggan through the heaviest snow! That was when she was young. Size was not kind to this old girl as she aged!
Along the way my daughter wanted a Bassett, and for 6 years we shared our home with an unusual girl named Hollee. That little shit was quite a handful! She was very protective of home & family, and had even treed an officer that was coming to let us know she was off her chain again... of course, I didn't ever tell them my family was too freaking lazy to bend over & hook her up! Not to mention, every time we moved, there were always asshole children next door that teased her, along with asshole parents that never owned up to their fucking kids being malicious little monsters, and threatened us every time their brats came home crying that Hollee scared them! So inevitably, she bit. She couldn't stand running kids (except hers) and hated kids on bikes, chasing & nipping, basically scaring the little terrors! The first actual bite happened with a lady jogging by. When Officer Willis came to come get H for quarantine, he told me she felt bad, and never would have filed a report, but you know panicky stupid people... her family freaked out, insisted she go to the hospital, where by law she had to. She said it was obvious the dog was just doing her job because as soon as the girl was past our yard, the little freak trotted back up the driveway, to sun herself... It wasn't until 2 years later, with the most recent set of asshole kids & parents that we ended up having to surrender Hollee to a very sympathetic chief of police...

... to be continued ...
